Lady Antebellum – Heart Break

June 11, 2017

By Louisa
Country trio Lady Antebellum are back with their sixth studio album. Heart Break is their first album since taking a hiatus in 2015. They worked with producer Busbee (Keith Urban, Maren Morris). Hillary, Charles and Dave offer up a predominantly pop album with some country elements. Read my thoughts on each track, below.

Heart Break

The album opens strong with the title track. Charles Kelley has said this is his favourite track on the album and it’s easy to see why. This has Lady A’s signature sound but sounds fresh and appealing. I feel this is a strong contender for a future single release. Rating: 5/5
You Look Good
The lead single was the funky “You Look Good”. Lady A released this back in January and it has been climbing up the country charts in the US ever since. The horns elevate the song and are a great addition to the track. “You Look Good” is fast becoming a fan favourite. Rating: 4/5
Somebody Else’s Heart
This sounds like another classic Lady A track. It wouldn’t be out of place on their last studio project 747. The song features a familiar theme of love and heartbreak. Great harmonies from Hillary, Charles and Dave. Rating: 3/5
This City
Lady A debuted this song during a Facebook Live event in January. This is yet again another song that is quintessential Lady Antebellum. It is uptempo and has a great singalong chorus. A perfect summer song. Rating: 5/5
Hurt A standout track on the album. “Hurt” received rave reviews on its release. The subject of the song is a one-sided love affair. It is one of the few ballads on the album. Hillary Scott leads the track and delivers a raw and heartbreaking vocal. A beautiful song that will strike a chord with many. Rating: 5/5
Army
This song was inspired by Charles and Dave’s wives. The song has a ’70s feel to it. Reminds me of Fleetwood Mac. Definitely worth checking out. Rating: 3/5
Good Time To Be Alive
This is a song that will get the crowd singing along on Lady A’s tour this summer. It talks about how life is good when you’re with the one you love. It is another highlight on the album. The intro has a gospel feel to it. Rating: 4/5
Think About You
A straight-up pop song. This breezy number will make you turn it up and dance. Hillary leads yet again. It talks about not thinking about the past and moving on from your past relationship. Rating: 3/5
Big Love In A Small Town
This song talks about young love and will sound familiar to Lady A fans. The mid tempo track sounds filler and not very memorable. Rating: 2/5
The Stars
A sweet song written for their kids. Lady A have said Heart Break is their most personal album to date. “The Stars” is a song that parents will no doubt adore. It is an enjoyable listen and a nice tribute to their little ones. Rating: 4/5
Teenage Heart
Lady A have written songs in the past that reflect on youth and young love. This is another uptempo number. Lady A have revealed in interviews they like looking back at their younger years for inspiration. This song should appeal to the band’s young fans. Rating: 3/5
Home
Lady A wrote this song about their spouses and say it was inspired by their happy home lives. The song talks about how the person you love makes you feel safe and secure and anywhere feels like home when you’re together. Rating: 4/5
Famous
The closing track is a poignant song that was inspired by the documentary on British singer Amy Winehouse, detailing her troubled life and subsequent death. Lady Antebellum told PEOPLE Magazine they felt it was an important song to include on the album. It is definitely worth a listen. A well written song that pulls on the heart strings. Rating: 5/5
Overall this is another good album from the Nashville-based band. It will appeal to the mainstream country audience. Check it out!
